One angry post is a person. Ten posts that say the same thing are a pattern. Until now the feed could not tell you which one you had, because it compared words and not meaning. A mention that said "cancelled my subscription" did not come back from a search for "churn".

Each mention now carries its meaning as well as its words. The feed uses that meaning two ways.

Find similar#

Each mention has a Find similar button in its toolbar. Use it, and the feed shows you the mentions that are nearest in meaning to that one.

A chip at the top of the filter row names the platform and the author of the mention that you started from. That mention is not in its own results, and the chip is there to tell you which one it was. Point to the chip to read the full author and the first lines. Press the browser back button one time to remove the chip.

Your filters continue to apply. Keep the platform, the date range and the read state that you set, or change them while the chip is present. The sort control is hidden, because these results are already in order of similarity.

Parahuman computes the meaning of a mention while it enriches it. Thus a mention that arrived some seconds ago can give no results. Try it again after a short time.

Search matches meaning#

Search uses the same box and the same filters as before. It now finds a mention that says the same thing in different words, and it also finds your exact words as it did before.

Your saved views, your keyword filters and your sort are not changed. A search for a word that you know is still a search for that word.

What this does not do yet#

Alerts do not use meaning. An alert continues to match on the filters of its saved view, and a similarity condition is not one of them.

The feed also keeps duplicate stories as separate cards. Find similar shows you that a story is duplicated. It does not yet collect those cards into one.
